Fan Experiences & Charity: Global Roots LA Dinner with Paul Wesley & Torrey DeVitto

Last summer a charity organization, called Global Roots, announced the involvement of two new volunteers. Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) and Torrey DeVitto (Meredith Fell) joined Global Roots in their efforts to help children in less than desirable situations. When Paul and Torrey were announced as their latest volunteers, they started a contest. With every $10 donated to Global Roots via Paul & Torrey’s Corner, you could win a trip to Los Angeles to dine with them. There would be two winners. The first would be the person who donates the most and the second winner would be the “lucky one”.
Being the sucker I am for charity, especially when it is something I believe in, I figured “Why not?” So I started donating a bit here and there with every pay check. I thought “Maybe I could be the highest donor?” So I aimed for it.
When the deadline loomed, I had reached my maximum I was able to donate, which was $505. I thought that would push me up as the highest donor, but a few others donated at the last minute and I couldn’t do it. I was a little disappointed but I kept saying to myself, “I helped out a good cause.”
On March 10th I was sitting at home watching television with my roommate when I happened to check my emails. I saw an email from Global Roots Founder, Richard Montgomery with the subject line “You Won!” I think there was a squee or two and a bit of jumping around that happened and not just from me! Turns out, I was the lucky winner. Out of 2300+ ballots, my name got pulled out.
Shortly after, Torrey tweeted my name out and then a bit later, Paul did as well (the drawing was the night of PaleyFest).
The time for me to go to LA is almost here. I leave my little quaint corner of New Brunswick, Canada on April 8th and will have dinner with Paul, Torrey, and the most generous donor Michelle.
The best part of all of this is Paul & Torrey’s Corner raised over $23,000. Isn’t that incredible? So many kids are going to be helped! I really want to encourage all of you to donate to Global Roots if you can spare some change. A cup of coffee at Starbucks is around $2. Imagine if you skipped two of those a week. You could easily donate $208 per year.
I promise I’ll have a review of my trip to LA for all of you and I will share a photo or two, that is if we are permitted to get photos. Nonetheless, I will share the experience with you all via written form when I return.

“Vampire Diaries” fans have an incredible ability to mobilize for a good cause. It’s no surprise that given the opportunity to contribute to Global Roots, an organization that protects children all over the world by providing them with safe places and healthy resources, TVD fans have been generous with their time and money.
In a show of support for Global Roots, stars Paul Wesley and Torrey DeVitto plan to attend a fundraising dinner in Los Angeles this spring, and they’re inviting fans to sit at their table!
For a donation of just $10 to Paul & Torrey’s Corner at Global Roots, you’ll be entered to win a seat at the table. If you donate the most out of anyone, you’ll actually get to sit next to Paul and Torrey — who will also arrange for your air fare if you live outside the U.S.
The deadline is tonight (March 9) at 11:59 p.m. PST, so you’ll have to donate quickly if you want to be entered into the raffle. Click here to see all the information and find out how you can donate.
