ASSIGNMENT X got a chance to catch up with THE VAMPIRE DIARIES star Daniel Gillies recently at the NBC SUMMER PRESS DAY at the Langham Huntington Hotel & Spa in Pasadena.

Daniel was there to promote his new NBC series SAVING HOPE (debuting this summer), and although his storyline on THE VAMPIRES DIARIES is not over yet. In SAVING HOPE Daniel stars as Dr. Joel Goran, along with Erica Durance (SMALLVILLE) and Michael Shanks (STARGATE ATLANTIS).

While at today’s NBCUniversal Summer Press Day 2012, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES actor Daniel Gillies hinted that he’s not completely done with THE VAMPIRE DIARIES even though his character Elijah Mikaelson had left town at the end of “All My Children” and he is also starring in the new NBC medical drama SAVING HOPE debuting on June 7.

“I have not entirely left THE VAMPIRE DIARIES,” says Gillies. “Fortunately we film at different times during the year. I’m deeply indebted to what [THE VAMPIRE DIARIES] has given me, but this show [SAVING HOPE] takes precedence. I love [DIARIES executive producers] Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson. I’d do anything for them in a instance. I can’t speak about anything further on the show, or I probably will be fired.”

A few hours after Michael Trevino took the stage at this weekends Vampire Diaries convention in Chicago, Daniel Gillies regaled attendees with stories about his favorite hairstyle (“Wait until you see the Elijah ‘fro, it’s a thing of beauty.”) and about waiting on Paul Wesley in Canada (“He left me a really nice tip. But that’s Paul. He’s a good dude.”).
